Pet & Animal Support

You don't have to figure this out alone. Whether we can assist directly or connect you with a trusted community partner, we'll do our best to help you find the next step.

If this is an emergency, call 911. For immediate community resources, call 211.

The animals we love are family too. Through Paws of Hope, we help connect people with community resources that may help them care for companion animals and other animals — including many types of animals, not only dogs and cats — during difficult circumstances. UHS does not provide veterinary diagnosis, veterinary treatment advice, or legal determinations about service animals or emotional-support animals.

How We Can Connect You

  • Connections to community resources that help people care for animals
  • Pet food, supplies, and veterinary-cost resource navigation
  • Help finding resources for companion and emotional-support animals of many kinds
  • Guidance toward appropriate organizations (UHS does not make legal animal designations)

Every situation is unique, and you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We'll take the time to understand your needs, explore available resources, and help connect you with the most appropriate support available.

We are currently building our verified resource directory.

Our team is carefully compiling a trusted, up-to-date directory of resources across Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina. While we build this list, please reach out and we will personally help connect you to available support.

You don't have to navigate this alone. We're here to walk beside you.
